Rudolph Piacenza Obituary

On Friday November 18,2022   Rudolph Joseph Piacenza (“Rudy the Barber”) of Oak St Norwich Ct   passed away peacefully at the Hartford Hospital with family by his side. Rudy was 94 years young.  Rudy leaves behind his wife Maria (Obbiuci) Piacenza of 68 years. He is also survived by his son Robert and Daughter in law Mary Jo (lamperelli) Piacenza, His Son Bill Piacenza and Daughter in law Trina (Legarda) and his Daughter Linda (Piacenza) Ballato and husband Peter Ballato. Rudy also leaves behind his three grandchildren Nichole (Piacenza) Carpenter and Husband Kenneth Carpenter, Ashley Piacenza and James Ballato  and his two Great Grand Children, Griffin and Joseph Carpenter .  He also leaves behind two Sisters,  Nancy Cicchiello,  and Joyce Coletti,  and a sister in law Barbra Piacenza, and many nieces and nephews.             

Rudy was born and raised in Norwich Ct  the son of Joseph and Mamie Bernadette (Brogno) Piacenza . Rudy graduated NFA  and later served proudly in World War II  and Korean Conflict  earning the rank of sergeant. While stationed in Verona Italy is where Rudy met the love of his life Maria.  After serving in the military he graduated Barber / Hairstyling school in New London and opened his own business (Rudy’s Barber Shop) where he worked for 47 years in the Greenville section of Norwich. Rudy was also a part time Barber at the United States Coast Guard Academy working on board the USCGC  EAGLE. He was member of VFW  and DAV  and a leader in the Boy Scouts in Norwich.  Rudy was big hearted man, and provided haircuts to the elderly in local Senior facilities.  Rudy had a passion for fishing, and many times Rudy and Maria could be seen at the Norwich Marina fishing and crabbing  or  at Long Pond in Stonington ct with his grandchildren and Maria.  He was always wth Maria. He was a passionate (antique) collector and clock repair (cuckoo clocks), typewriter repair, gardening, an avid reader of the comics in the Norwich Bulletin . He enjoyed scratch off lottery tickets, a fan of boxing, Philadelphia Phillies, Italian Opera, Judge Judy and Ocean Beach and his rocking chair. Rudy was a devoted family man and friend to many, Rudy often said the best thing a person can do in life is spend time with family. Rudy and his Rudy-ism will be missed by his family and all who knew him. We miss you Dad

A grave site service will be held at 10 AM on Monday December 5th at St Joseph Cemetery in Norwich, CT.
