Paul Turner Sr. Obituary

Heartfelt Memories of

Our Dear Husband, Dad, Granddad and Great-Granddad

Paul Maurice Turner, Sr., 86, of Griswold, CT passed away peacefully on November 2, 2023; at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. He was the fifth child of seven children born to the late Parthenia B. Clay and George E. Turner of Charles Town, West Virginia. He was predeceased by his siblings; George E. Jr., Charles Lee, William (Bill) Taft, Mary Estelle Hart (his twin sister), Sainty Willis, and Francis Leroy.

Paul was born and raised in Charles Town. He attended Eagle Avenue Elementary School and Page Jackson High School where he met his high school sweetheart, Geraldine Emma Willis from Harpers Ferry. Paul and Geraldine married in 1955 and have three children.

At the age of 12, Paul started his working journey landing his first job working in a delicatessen store in Charles Town. During his high school years, he was employed as a horse groomsman at the Charles Town Racetrack.  In 1961 the family moved to Norwich, CT where he was employed at the Yantic Grain Feed Company, the Kings Seeley Thermos Company and lastly employed as a welder for General Dynamics Electric Boat for nearly 40 years; retiring in 2013.

Paul loved, supported, and enjoyed spending time with his family for 68 years until his passing. He loved to make his grandchildren smile and laugh! He would often make breakfast pancakes for them. Though he was generations apart he was interested in stepping into the world of his children and grandchildren.  He often offered one-liners of wisdom that became household cliches for the family.  His favorite cars were the Regal Buick and he enjoyed listening to music and reading the newspaper. Many times, he returned home to Charles Town for family and school reunions.  He was much loved by his family and will be deeply missed.

Paul was a devoted family man and joined and aligned himself with the Seventh-day Adventist faith.

He leaves behind a devoted wife, Geraldine Turner of Griswold, CT; son Paul Turner, Jr. (wife Wannetta) of Douglasville, Pa; daughters Roselyn Harris and Terri Nozil (husband Ernest) of Griswold CT; grandchildren Laura George (husband Earl), Albert Turner, Lynaé Harrison (husband Brenton), Kelley Nozil, Matthew Harris and Sarah Harris; great-grandchildren Laila George, Aden George, and Brenton Harrison, Jr., and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 13, at 11:00 a.m., Norwich Seventh-day Adventist Church, 400 Harland Road, Norwich, CT 06360.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.

Interment will be held in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
