M. Moran Obituary

M. Virginia (Ginny) Moran

1924-2021

Norwich-Ginny Moran, 96, of East Town St. and Groton Long Point, died peacefully surrounded by her family at her home on Monday, February 22, 2021.

Ginny was born October 12, 1924, a daughter of the late James R. and Mary (Lynch) Moran. She was a 1942 graduate of Norwich Free Academy.  After completing Commercial School, Ginny worked in the office of the Glen Woolen Mill in the Bean Hill section of Norwichtown.

In 1953 when the Diocese of Norwich was created, Ginny became the secretary to the first Bishop, Bernard J. Flanagan. She remained there until 1959 when Bishop Flanagan was appointed Bishop of Worcester. Working in the Chancery were, “The happiest years of my working career, “she always said. Ginny was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Norwichtown and was a member of the Rosary Altar Society.

Ginny then worked for Hartford National Bank and its affiliates for the remainder of her career. In 1972 She was appointed Branch Manager of the Ledyard office, one of the first female managers for the bank. The New London Day published a photo in 1976 of the first all-female bank branch in Connecticut. She was very proud of that fact and told the story right until the end.

Her life goal was to maintain and reside in her childhood home, which she did until her death. Ginny also loved spending summers at Groton Long Point with her family, walking her golden retrievers, and a great party.

Ginny is survived by her niece, Ann Marie Lafayette with whom she shared her home; great niece, Kate Buteau and her husband Chris and their two children Grace and Jamison and several cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Helen and (Donald) Demontigny; nephew-in-law, Patrick Lafayette; nephew James P. Lafayette.

A private funeral mass will be held for the family, but the family wishes to invite all friends and family to a graveside service at Saint Joseph Cemetery, 815 Boswell Ave., Norwich, CT. 06360 on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 11:45 am.
