Hannah Walker Obituary

Hannah L Walker

New London – Hannah Louise Walker, age 91, of Norwich, passed away Saturday, February 7th, 2026 at the Beechwood Health & Rehab Center in New London. Born in Norwich, March 16th, 1934, she was the daughter of the late James Frederick and Anna (MacKillop) Walker.

She was raised and educated in Norwich, attending Saint Patrick's School and graduating from Norwich Free Academy before attending nursing school for a short time. She later pursued a career in modeling in New York City.

Hannah, known to everyone in her family as “Nancy”, spent nearly her entire life in her hometown of Norwich where she worked in the healthcare industry for over 30 years. She was employed by the William W Backus Hospital Medical Records Department, retiring from employment in 1993.

Nancy was an avid beachgoer in the summertime, and she traveled extensively, including abroad, yet she most enjoyed the simple things in life; a hot cup of coffee, reading on her front porch, a quiet walk at Mohegan Park, bottling her own spring water, homemade dessert or a good ballgame on the television. She was a faithful UConn Huskies Men’s Basketball fan and became an devout Toronto Blue Jays fan over the past 14 years, practically never missing a game, and the opportunity to see her nephew Peter Walker on television.

She was a loving and devoted daughter, aunt and great-aunt to so many. Her greatest passion was her family, and extended family, and sharing in their many accomplishments. She was also a woman of strong Catholic faith. Nancy was stoic, kind, easy going, and an eternal optimist. Her calm, resilient demeanor, her sense of humor, and her signature laugh, will forever be remembered by the entire Walker Clan. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and dear friends.

Nancy is survived by her sister: Florence Boland of North Carolina, and a multitude of nieces and nephews, and    grand-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents (Nanny & Pop Walker), she was predeceased by her brothers James Walker and John Walker; her sisters, Eileen Bickley, Joyce St. Germain-Warner and Mary Pennington-Fuller; and six nephews, LtCol Robert I Boland III USMC Retired, Jay Boland, John M Walker Jr., Peter Walker, Paul Walker & Mitchell Walker.

The Walker family would like to thank all of Nancy’s caregivers over the past 14 months at Beechwood Health & Rehab Center, with a very special thank you to nephew Matthew Walker for managing her care and looking after her over the past several years.

A Catholic Mass in Nancy’s honor will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, March 26th, 2026 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Norwich, CT followed by a reception for family and friends at a place to be determined. Burial of Nancy’s ashes will be private at a later date. Kindly omit flowers. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity she was passionate about; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, to help defeat childhood cancer.
