Carol Kiem passed away on April 23 at the age of 83 after a brave battle against COVID-19 and ensuing complications. She was a strong woman who overcame many challenges throughout her life due to her courageous spirt. Carol was pre-deceased by her husband Bob Jensen and is survived by her daughters Catherine Varney (and husband Norm), Carol Kogut (and husband Kevin), Laura Galloway (and husband Steve), Linda Thibeault (and husband Kim), Maureen Autio (and husband Paul) and Nora Taylor (and husband Chris). She was a loving grandmother to Jason, Shanda, Stacia, Nate, Marissa, Max, Emily, Dale, Erik and Sara; and adoring great-grandmother to Sidney, Landon, Kyla, Tristen, and Eric. Carol loved the ocean and her favorite place to be was at the beach. She was an avid walker in all kinds of weather, known for saying “you just need to dress for it”. That attitude is a testimony to Carol’s persistence and adaptability. Her kind gentle spirit, sparkling blue eyes, and warm loving smile will be missed by all that were blessed to have known her and her beautiful soul.
Special thanks to all healthcare workers caring for our loved ones during this difficult time, including the staff at Mystic Health Care nursing home where Carol resided during the past several years. Carol’s family is especially grateful to the staff of Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London CT for taking care of our mom / mema through her final days. We are particularly thankful to Doctor Troy Frazer who went above and beyond his professional duties, providing care and support to both Carol and her family in a very personal and loving way.
Expressions of sympathy most appreciated would be actions contributing to fighting COVID-19 and supporting those financially impacted by this crisis.
