Orin Z. Trooskin, 62, of Oakdale, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday March 3, 2018 at the W. W. Backus Hospital.
He was born August 17, 1955 in Plainfield, NJ, the son of Jeremiah and Beatrice (Moskowitz) Trooskin.
Orin is survived by the love of his life Christine Cavan; son Leo Trooskin (Catia); daughter Erica Cherichello (Anthony); Christine’s sons Richard and Steven Cavan; sister Alice Donoghue (Michael); four grandchildren Dylan, Jake, Ava and Luke; and nephews Keith, Brian (Kristin) and Daniel (Elizabeth) Donoghue.
Orin was a graduate of Rahway High School and Kean University. He worked for many years in the cable industry, first as a field technician and later as a manager. He also managed fitness centers and a storage unit facility. A free spirit, Orin had a larger than life personality. He had the gift of becoming an instant friend to anyone he encountered. His sense of humor and ability to make people laugh was legendary. Quick witted and charismatic, Orin had a warm and dynamic presence. He could often be found reading a good book while basking in the sun. If he wasn’t reading, he was enjoying his passion for riding his Harley Davidson. A lifelong fitness enthusiast, Orin earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do and also enjoyed playing the guitar. Lovingly called “Grandpa O” by his grandchildren, they will miss the amazing way he could tell a story.
All are welcome to a celebration of Orin’s life on Sunday, March 18th at 2pm at The Colts Neck Fire Department #1, 123 Route 537, Colts Neck, NJ 07722. Reception immediately following at the same location. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at donate.LLS.org or to St. Jude Children’s hospital at stjude.org.
