Norwich – Daniel Mark Black, 59, of Otis Street passed away Sunday February 11, 2018 at the W. W. Backus Hospital.

He was born February 24, 1958 in Springfield, MA the son of Paul Silas and Marion Avis (Smith) Black.  He grew up in Tolland Connecticut.  Daniel served in the United States Navy from 1976 to 1980. He was a paralegal for the Norwich Superior Court.  

Dan was referred to as “Dan-Dan the food man” because he loved cooking, food and teasing the dog with treats.  He was a natural carpenter, spending many hours making his home a sweet place for his family.  Dan also loved primitive camping and boating, spending considerable amounts of time camping with his family and friends.  He played saxophone and was in the Norwich Arts Council Band. Daniel always found that family was the most important thing to him and he loved his Wally dog. He will always be loved and missed by us all.

Daniel is survived by his wife Brenda Miller-Black, son David Black, three daughters Emily Black, Alison Black, Carolyn Black, mother Marion Black and brother Paul Black and his wife Lisa, and one niece and two nephews, brother Peter Black, many, many, many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and loved ones. 

A Celebration of Daniel’s Life will be held on his 60th birthday.  Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Sperrli Hall, next door to the First Congregational Church of Norwich, 81 East Town St, Norwich, CT.   

Donations in Daniel’s memory can be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children 516 Carew Street Springfield, MA 01104.
